There are two churches in the parish: St. Peter and Paul’s, Ballymacward and St. Michael’s, Gurteen. Mass is celebrated in Ballymacward on Saturday at 7pm (Winter)/8pm (Summer). There are services also at 9am on Mondays and Tuesdays and at 7pm on Fridays. Mass is celebrated in Gurteen on Sunday mornings at 11am (Winter)/10am (Summer) and also at 8pm on Friday evening.
Ballymacward (Baile Mhic an Bháird) and Gurteen (Goirtín) are rural communities in East Galway. The area is located between the towns of Mountbellew (12km North), Athenry (24km West) and Ballinasloe (25km East). The parish is part of the Diocese of Clonfert and stretches from Fohenagh in the east, to Newcastle in the west. It is the most northerly parish in the Diocese and is bordered to the north by the Archdiocese of Tuam and the Diocese of Elphin.
